Title: Hobbies/Talents?
Post by: Kaz on March 28, 2013, 09:35:47 AM
I know we all enjoy playing Minecraft and other video games, but I was wondering what else all you like to do in your spare time. Do you have other hobbies? Any talents or skills?

I love to read and write novels and short stories. I am in the midst of writing a novel (that I actually started years ago but never really worked on it). What kind of books do you guys like? If any. I really enjoy the Percy Jackson series and the other books Rick Riordan has written. He's my inspiration as a writer.

Also, I like to play music, even if I suck. I play drums and do a certain thing called "screaming". Screaming is exactly what you think. I do "screamo" vocals like they do in Asking Alexandria and Of Mice & Men. It's a very difficult skill and can cause my vocal cords to be torn to shreds if I fail to do it correctly.

Well, that's some stuff I do when I'm not on Minecraft. What about you?

Hmmm, hobbies and talents? Let's see here. When I'm not playing Minecraft I draw (in charcoal and pencil) reasonably well, I both play and DM Dungeons and Dragons campaigns (yes, I am absolutely "that kind of geek"), and I'm absolutely epic at using Easter grass to whistle simple tunes.

Well, I've recently picked back up skating. I was rusty but I'm doing good now. I'm do street, I've never done vert do to lack of skate parks in my old neighborhood.

I love to body surf and surf, even tho I've moved into a valley roughly 200 miles away from the nearest beach. This is probably why I've gotten into Minecraft and pc gaming.

When I have time I like to take a look at my engines and learn about them. I'm great with hands on.
I took apart my 1996 chevy c1500 v6 engine and put it back together because It had faulty spark plugs and I had to clean a lot of the left over unburned crap. I surprisingly did well and had my truck running great. I try not to mess with my Cadillac tho. I did change the spark plugs on my girlfriend Cadillac which was easy and I was happy with my self about. Specially because they tried to ask for 300$ for the labor alone.

I've recently gotten into hiking. I went on a hike maybe 2 months ago with my GF and 3 of her friends. We wanted to bring a friend (steph )of ours that isn't really built for hiking but she's really funny and cool to be around. So we did. It was a 4.5 mile hike up a mountain trail and ended at a large water fall, but to get to the edge of the water fall you had to clime over some boulders. Steph had stepped wrong on a rock and rolled her ankle. She was in pain and didn't want me to call for help. On our hike back i noticed the sun was going down fast , and our pace wasn't fast enough to get us out before dark. I kept calm and to my self, last thing I wanted was to scare the girls too soon.  I told my GF and another one of her friends to jog to the car and wait for us there. Well to fast forward through all the crying and yelling. Me and Steph and another girl ended up stuck in pitch black having an iPhone with 10% battery to light the way for us. It's roughly about 9:00pm and we still have a mile to go on the side of this mountain trail. The iphone died and we still needed to walk another .5 miles to the parking lot. I had to tell the girl to help me pull Steph up this mountain. She was holding her left arm and feeling the side of the mountain for soft dirt. I told her to do this so we didn't lose the hard dirt trail. I had Steph's right arm and had to feel along the edge of the cliff . Longest half mile of my life, all we could see was the tree tops shadowed by the stars. We finally made it to the parking lot. We all got in the car and took off. Not even 3 minutes into the drive back down the mountain, a deer jumped out in front of our car. I was going maybe 35-40 mph and had to slam on my breaks and swerve out of hitting it. The girls all yelled at the top of their lungs as the deers face was mere inches away from the passenger side windows. This did haunt the girls, but for me was a rush that I want to feel again. lol.

Sorry for the long post.

I also like football. I'm not much for watching sports but I'm a good athlete.

I'm also good at beer pong, even tho I look like an idiot when I shoot. lol

I'm also into breakdancing. I still suck tho. lol
so thats just some things I like to do.

I work as a Rail Operations Volunteer at the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer, NC.  Being a "railfan" / "train geek" / "train nut" is one of those 3 yr old parts of me that never died, and when I moved to North Carolina, it was a good, fun outlet for me.  Now, I'm the chairman of the Car Dept (in charge of maintaining our rolling stock fleet), and an engineer on a regular train crew.  Yes, I drive a choo choo.  Sticking with the train theme, I have a small N-scale layout that I haven't worked on in a few years - due to my daughter being born, and my mother in law moving in with us and taking up the room that the layout was in.  But, I do still enjoy modeling.

I dabble a bit in guitar, enough that got me laid in college a bit, but not good enough to join a band.

For other games, I play PS3 and usually focus on Black Ops II, Modern Warfare 3, or Madden.  Am I good?  Ehhh... I don't brag.  But my KDR is north of 1.00 on both MW3 and BO2.

I'm decent enough with tools, and between Googling and my workbench, I can fix most things that come my way.  I've run a couple websites in my time, and so have done a bit of programming. :)

Otherwise, my hobbies are generally trying to enjoy life as I can.

I like playing the stupid amount of instruments that I play, I've got a terrible tendency to spend too much time on Minecraft and with my friends and my personal favourite is flying (as in aircraft)

I enjoy reading, I play many games on the 360, namely the Halo series, Assassin's Creed series, and a few others. I am an assistant scoutmaster in a BSA troop, and enjoy camping and hiking. That's about it for me!
